Wild food

A good field guide is recommended. Most field guides are region specific and I’ve found the more narrow the region or topic the book is covering, the more in depth the information is. Local knowledge is the most valuable. More valuable, and often more credible than any book, so keep that in mind if you would like to learn more about foraging wild foods.

If you’re in North America these are some of the best book relating to wild foods I’ve come across (Though they may be useful in other areas of the world as well):

Edible Wild Plants: A North American Field Guide to Over 200 Natural Foods

The Foragers Harvest: A Guide to Identifying, Harvesting, and Preparing Edible Wild Plants

Browsing Natures Aisles: A Year of Foraging for Wild Food in the Suburbs

There are so many great field guides out there about wild foods so don’t just consider the books in this list. See what else you can find, and if you can find any field guides that are specific to your area. Your local library is a good place to look for books on wild foods in your area.

Your task is to go out and find 5 wild edible foods!
